1999 split Golf's and Jetta models with versions III and version IV.  This Pump fits version III ONLY.

This water pump works off the Drive Belt ( "V" Belt)   The later model ( Type IV) works off the Timing Belt.  Can use unit with the housing which is easier to install. ( less bolts that break trying to remove water pump.   This has the 30mm hub  It is easier and quicker if the mechanic removes the entire water pump with the housing ( only 4 bolts) and remove the pump from the housing on a bench.

TRW / FP 1897 Water Pump VW w/40mm Hub.  This unit was only used one year. 1980 and on some 1981 4 cyl models ONLY.  The books have always had the listing incorrect.  You do not have to ask if the customer has a 40 or 30mm hub if the car is not a 1980 or 1981 model.

Driven with "V"  drive belt

This version of the FP 1836 comes with the housing.  This offers several advantages.  Less labor time as you only have to remove 4 bolts. Often times one of the nine mounting bolts will brake, resulting in trying to remove the broken stud from the housing.

The mounting gasket used here is the same as the thermostat O-Ring.  ( BEC / 039-0033 = FEL / 25598 )  It comes with the pump.

This is also used on most VW 4 cyl engines from 1985 Through 1999.  Available through W/Pac and has a list of $205 and a cost of around $45  This uses the 30mm hub and is driven by a Drive Belt ("V" Belt)

This water pump is used on Version IV models and is driven off the timing belt.  The easiest way to identify is to ask if the pump is driven off the "V" belt or the timing belt.  the pump is available from W/P.  Click on the photo for a closer view.  This pump has a list of around $130 and cost around $48
